Role of Nurse Leaders in Reengineering Healthcare

Nurse Managers or leaders in any clinical setting collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care. To enhance patient care quality, they rely on evidence-based and patient-centered performance data. Their role in reengineering healthcare is through being patient and staff advocates. They ensure that the hospital environment functions smoothly and is calm. Healthcare reengineering involves reordering organization priorities, providing cost-effective care to patients, and increasing safety and value (Pallari et al., 2020). It can include redesigning and reorganization if there is a need for change in a unit or hospital.  Nurse leaders are mentors to the nurses. They define patient care and train nurses on the new procedures and policies. They relay all the complaints or concerns made by nurses to the organization since they act as the middle person.

Nurse leaders have a responsibility to create a hospital environment in which patients and families are respected. Patients should be well educated on their health condition and treatment, empowering them to make informed decisions concerning their health and medicine. The leaders should always check feedback given by patients and families after service delivery (Larson, 2019). They listen to the voice of change. Leaders should stay informed on the current and rapidly changing trends in healthcare. The knowledge will help in adapting to changes in the needs of the community. Reengineering is essential to increase care delivery efficiency, maintain safety, and improve processes. Nurse leaders are involved in ethical decision-making in the hospital. It impacts patient and staff conflict, communication, legal issues, change, and conflict resolution. Nurse leaders encourage the staff to stick to ethics, especially in solving medical ethical dilemmas.
